What if Penge was commissioned by Bromley Council.

It was Designed By Good People to investigate how shops in Penge could look if funding were available as a peculate exercise. Shops and planning officers were consulted in producing the designs.

Penge is a special place, with a strong community with a beating creative heart. It’s architecture is impressive, but many shops over time have had poorly designed signage or architectural improvements. It has a healthy mix of independent businesses that is increasing and larger chain stores. It has a lot of potential that could be improved with a high street that looks and feels feels more proud of itself.

People buy things they want, not just what they need. If it’s something people want, it’s an emotive decision people make. Large corporations know this, which is why you don’t get dirty, ugly, bland packaging in shops and why they all look different. Shops should consider how they present themselves as an important investment rather than just  another cost. All shops in a street should work together to generate an emotive feeling to the street.

Designed By Good People are advisors on high street regeneration to the GLA and Mayor of London. They have worked with Harrow, Bromley, Lewisham, Croydon, Sidcup, Hounslow, Ealing, Merton, Lambeth, Havering and Hillingdon Councils and with architects BDP, Stears Davies Gleave, Pie, Beep Studio and Untitled Practice to name a few.

They have worked on high street regeneration schemes in Streatham High Street, West Norwood, Kirkdale, Sydenham Road, Hounslow Town Centre, Rainham, Ruislip Manor, Northwood Hills, Hayes, Brentford, Sidcup and Mitcham.

They also work on various branding and packaging projects for ethical, eco-friendly clients.
